CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme Inauguration
The Punjab Government officially launched the cm punjab free solar panel scheme for 100,000 consumers. It is a relief for consumers who are burdened by high electricity bills. People in Pakistan suffer from high electricity costs due to IPPs’ expensive unit rates (independent power plants). Consumers of above 200 units have to pay 10,000 to 18,000 monthly electricity bills.
In August and September 2024, the Punjab government has subsidized consumers of 200-plus units. It was not a huge relief. Therefore, an initiative has been taken by executives of the Punjab Govt to launch the free solar panel scheme for 100,000 consumers. It is the long-term and permanent relief by the Punjab Government. We have shared the features and specifications of the CM Punjab free solar panel scheme in another article.

How will the Punjab government award free solar panels?
Solar panels will be awarded to consumers through a computerized balloting system. This computerized balloting system is very important to ensure transparency. Authorities will verify the consumers through the CNIC and reference numbers on electricity bills. A helpline will be established to guide the consumers. Solar panels and inverters will be linked with CNIC to avoid theft.

Carbon emissions will be reduced by 57,000 tons with the installation of 100,000 solar panels.
What are the challenges of installing 100,000 solar panels?
Implementing a free solar scheme throughout Punjab will face the following challenges:.
Transparency
Corruption and reference to high authorities reduce the effect of these types of welfare schemes, especially in Pakistan.
Deserving people need help getting benefits from the scheme. Officers and political persons give the advantage to their relative or person of reference.
Therefore, for the success of this free solar scheme, transparency is very important. The government or an independent, transparent institute should monitor the whole process. They should ensure that 100,000 free solar panels are distributed to every deserving citizen of Punjab.
Cost of Solar Panels
The Punjab government has to bear the cost of 100,000 solar panels. That requires a high budget and transparency.
Maintenance after Installation
Maintenance is another issue after installation; CM Punjab should hire or develop a team to maintain 100,000 solar systems after installation.
Conclusion
CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz launched the free solar panel scheme on 6th December 2024. It is a good initiative by CM Punjab. This free solar scheme will reduce the burden of electricity on consumers and the government. A person consuming less than 100 and 200 units is eligible for a free solar scheme.
Carbon emissions will be reduced on a large scale after installing solar panels. The project has to face the challenges. The Punjab government should ensure the transparency and maintenance of solar systems for the free solar scheme’s implementation and success.
